not voting for hillary clinton is a vote for donald trump
But also THERE ARE MORE THAN TWO CHOICES IN THIS ELECTION pls people, I know it seems unlikely, but if everyone who didn’t want either candidate wrote in a name, someone else would stand a chance [and we could live with ourselves, not having voted for one or the other]
no they wouldn’t, literally do not do this
please educate yourself about nader and the 2000 presidential election before encouraging this literally terrible idea
People on both sides say “Not voting for my candidate is a vote for the other guy” No, it’s just not a vote for your fucking candidate. Vote for who you actually believe in, otherwise you might as well not vote. If Hillary actually gave a damn she would try harder than just say “Vote for me cause I’m not Trump” No bitch, how about you show me something I can believe in. God damn, no wonder so many people don’t fucking vote.
*sigh*
Let me explain why they say a vote for a 3rd candidate or not voting for Hillary is voting for Trump:
The United States does not have a direct democratic voting system. We have an indirect system called the electoral college. The electoral college is a compromise between election of the President by a vote in Congress and election of the President by a popular vote of qualified citizens.
To win the Presidency you do not need a popular majority; you need the majority of votes of the electoral college.
The way the college works is that the two parties select the delegates that will serve as electors, and the electors pledge to vote for the candidates, depending on their party affiliation, of either the democratic or republican party. So, when people go vote, they are actually going to vote for electors that have pledged to vote for a specific party/candidate.
Each state is allocated a different number of electoral seats, and so not every state is truly worth the same given that every candidate is racing to secure 270 seats (minimum required to win the election).
What’s important to note is that the electoral college is a winner take all vote in 48 of the 50 states, meaning that the candidate with the higher number of votes in a given state will get ALL of the seats. This is one of the reasons why third party candidates are a wasted vote.
Based on our country’s history, most States around the country have already been defined as either red or blue, because the majority of the people that go and vote in said states tend to stick to either one or the other no matter who is on the ballot. It becomes a bit of loyalism to a party or, more accurately, just a strong distaste towards the ideals of the other party. However, there are a few swing states that really define the elections, for each election cycle they tend to change depending on who is on the ballot.
Now, third party candidates, which is often used as a protest vote, have never worked because a) they are not written into every state ballot, meaning that there are states that don’t offer these candidates given that they did not qualify b) have rarely gotten enough votes to even be up for electoral seats c) ALWAYS end up hurting one of the two candidates, for, in close runs, they can make one of the other two candidates lose a SWING STATE.
This is what happened with Ralph Nader in 2000. The votes that he received hurt Gore in certain states, particularly florida, which led to Bush winning as he had the majority of electoral seats even though he did not have the majority in popular vote.
Now, in the latest poll, it shows that the race between Hillary and trump is very close, and, when third party candidates are involved, it actually HURTS Hillary’s chances.
Now, if it hurts her enough, Trump can obtain the much needed swing states. If he gets over 270 seats (and thus more than hillary) he WILL win the goddamn election.
This is not a year to vote for a third party candidate. This is not a man you want in the oval office of the most powerful country in the world.
There is nothing NOTHING you can pull out that will make Trump the lesser of two evils.
We live in a country that has a two party system, so yes, a vote for a 3rd party candidate or a non-vote IS actually a vote for trump.
If you’re gonna tell the 2000 story tell the whole thing. If you’re gonna educate people about the electoral college don’t half ass it.
Essentially what they are trying to say but not really able to, is that the majority of voters will not vote third party so its a wasted vote because not enough representatives will be able to vote for the president. But they are afraid that enough people will vote for third party this election negating votes for Hillary thus making the majority of electoral votes to go to trump. What they fail to realize is that trump represents far right ideology, mostly jingoist and uninformed Republican voters where Clinton represents center right, a more conservative lean then say George W Bush, but still more liberal then Trump, hence the “lesser evil”. Clintons electorit are divided to three categories, unenlightened politicians, hoodwinked populous, and people who are scared of what a trump presidency will bring. Now the majority of Clinton supporters fall in the latter category, who were mostly former Bernie supporters and without him in the race, there is a voter vacuum of disenfranchised voters who feel wrong by the DNC and who also don’t like Trump. Clinton supporters feel entitled to these votes because the Dems represent the liberal populous, or at least they did, and as such made no effort to win the vacuum voters. So now that there is a threat of a new liberal party that would usurp the dem party, they are starting to panic and when people panic they are motivated by fear and try to spread that fear to everyone else. “If you vote third party, you vote trump!” And “your vote for third party doesn’t matter, so vote for my party!” Not realizing the hippocracie that “if my vote doesn’t matter then why do you care?”
In truth Al Gore lost the campaign because both parties voted for Bush. And he would have even won if he called for a recount of the whole of Florida and not just a single county because he was afraid that most of the electorit didn’t like him when in truth he could have won if he wasn’t such a coward. In the end it was the supreme Court that decided the election, not Congress and not Nader.
But enough of that back to modern election
So right now there would be two other candidates who would siphon votes from the Dems and the reps, Gary Johnson, who is more like a traditional Republican, and Jill Stein, who is a moderate left when considering the rest of the modern world. These two candidates could have had the power to contest the Dems and reps, making the logical phalluses that the fear mongers like to use just plain wrong. Because of this, the Dems and reps have both thrown their power into silencing both two party candidates so they can keep power, keep the populous stuck in the same system that makes people chose the second to worse candidate, and the wealthy can keep their positions of power. It’s a false democracy as far as democracy is concerned, more in line with an oligarchy, the rich rule and the poor live to serve this upper class, whether they know it or not. But I digress
In short, there will not be enough people to get a third party in power but there will be enough to stop one of the two major party heads from being elected. Just depends on what side you’re on. If your on Hillary side, they are eager to make the protest voters the scapegoat for the shit candidate instead of blaming the candidate, the system, and the corruption. Reps will blame Dems for rigging the system. Ironically, the Dems blame the voters and the reps blame the system, which should never happen. The voter can never be blamed for voting for what they want, to do so is against the fundamental tenates if democracy, even if you don’t like the vote. To do so otherwise, when the government blames the people, is fascism and that system must be destroyed. In the end it really doesn’t matter cause your vote will be changed or the results will be skewed and your rep will vote for what they want.
The voting system is jacked, but it’s no ones place to fear monger and tell others not to vote for someone they like in favor of an “electable” lesser evil. We are, on the face of it all, a democracy and shaming someone to vote for you’re favorite candidate is, quite frankly, an atrocity.
A lady that lies under oath, participates in the destruction of evidence, colludes with multiple government entities and foreign countries for her own selfish gains, and have no problem selling out our country for money is NOT fit to lead this country and I’m appalled you want to force me to vote for that.
“You’re the reason my candidate won’t get elected, and the other guy does!”
Seriously? Grotesque lack of a spine. You’ll convince no one with a condescending message like that. Trump’s people are overwhelming the streets, sure, and plenty of former Dems are voting for him. And that would be their fault why? Blame the ones who cheated and lied to force this situation, not the victims. It’s HRC and her campaign - who we see, time and time again - are to blame for trying to cheat the system without repercussion. We’re between a rock and a hard place, and people are fucking sick of this broken system. This is why they’re voting for a mad man that’s not a politician. Every politician has their own agenda and are trying to fuck us all over.
I certainly am not voting for either one of them. The whole country is going to burn either of which way, as they’re both bad choices. At the end of the night, I have to live with myself realizing I voted for one of these assholes, and my morals won’t allow me to give my vote - MY VOTE, NOT YOUR’S - to someone who I don’t believe in.
